Paris Food Markets you must visit!

The best food markets in Paris!

Food markets are always an amazing way to experience life as a local; on top of trying amazing food, you'll learn so much about the customs and about the people. Markets are places full of life, and they are fun insights to discover while you're here in Paris. So here is a list of my favorite ones!

La communale Saint-Ouen:

Like a neighborhood market but on a much larger scale, La Communale is the newest addition to Paris' food markets, part marketplace, part food court, and the largest in Europe! Located in the Docks district of Saint-Ouen, it sits under a century-old, light-filled hall (a rare feature for covered markets).

La Communale brings together local restaurants serving global cuisine, food shops, and plenty of seating to enjoy your finds on the spot. On top of that, the space hosts a variety of events, from carnivals to comedy clubs.

Marché des enfants rouges:

Considered the most famous and coolest market. It is the oldest covered market in Paris, created in 1615. Full of history but also full of people, this leads to the main problem of this market. It is often packed with visitors; thisthis covered market provides a perfect shelter for some of the city’s top food spots, including the legendary Alain Miam Miam, whose amazing sandwiches draw a steady crowd from Tuesday to Sunday.

If you don’t feel like waiting in line, there are plenty of great alternatives: Japanese bento at Taeko, Levantine pita at Jeanphi, and more. For a foodie experience  with a great atmosphere, grab a seat at Les Enfants du Marché and spend a little bit of time there!

Marché d’aligre

Both covered and open-air, Marché d'Aligre is a true local market. Open every morning from Tuesday to Sunday, it stands out for its affordable produce stalls lined up outside, making it a go-to spot for fresh fruits and vegetables at great prices.

One of our favorites, this market combines food shopping with a flea market (on the square), featuring beautiful antique and vintage stalls, especially on weekends. It’s a little village that is out for you to discover!

If you’re a meat lover and want to enjoy some French cuisine, you should grab  a seat at L'Étable à Manger—Les Provinces, right next to the market, book, or come early!

For a drink with character, I spoke about it in my top 5 best wine bars in Paris, Le Baron Rouge, a legendary Parisian wine bar  right by the market.

Marché des Batignolles

This is the little-loved one  of the 17th arrondissement and one of the most pleasant markets in Paris. On one side, you have the covered market, perfectly located between Parc Martin Luther King and Square des Batignolles. Open every day except Monday; it does take a midday break from 2 to 4 PM, so plan accordingly! The delis here are top-notch, with particularly excellent Lebanese and Berber food stalls.

A little further away, every Saturday morning, the open-air organic market sets up along the boulevard, featuring a lineup similar to the Marché Raspail, with the same laid-back atmosphere.

Marché Bastille

A once in a lifetime chance to enjoy oysters for breakfast (if it’s the season), not with a seaside view, but facing the Column of July and its revolutionary spirit.

On Sundays and Thursdays, the irresistible scent of rotisserie chicken will have you hooked. If you want to work up an appetite while scouting around, grab a galette saucisse or a kouign-amann with apples at the Breton specialty stall.

With over 100 vendors, the main thing is not to get overwhelmed; it’s a lot to take in, but that’s why we love the bastille market!

Belleville market:

It is one of the largest markets in Paris and the second-cheapest.

Every Tuesday and Friday morning, locals gather here, ready to elbow their way through the crowds; it is the most “local” of all the markets we spoke about before. Flavors from all around the world are available in this market, and this is what makes it unique!

For a moment of calm afterward, head to Floréal for lunch or a coffee. Another great foodie spot in Belleville is its nighttime food market, held once a month on a Thursday, each time with a different theme, bringing together a hand-picked selection of top street food vendors.
